I think Robert has a good point that greater reliance on technology (and the recent trend of standing back and letting people take mags from a stand without engaging with them) means that witnessing will be less effective as it will lack the human touch and it is that salesmanship that the corporation has relied on for the last 100 years to get new members. But this may just be the GB accepting that no one in the Developed World will listen to the tired old message any more so it doesn't matter how it is delivered. The key for them is getting the kids of current members in the Developed World signed up and expanding their market in the Developing World through the tried and true door to door salesmanship.

Jesus was a False Prophet - But was he deluded or deceitful?
by cofty inany objective reading of the gospels makes it plain that jesus believed his parousia would happen within the lifetime of his generation.. his followers believed in his imminent return until the day of their deaths.. his false prophecy damaged the lives of his disciples in a similar way to that done by the lies of modern cults like the watchtower.
peter and others walked out on their wives, children and businesses to follow him around palestine.
jesus taught them to put their families and other normal concerns in second place to their task of spreading his message - which turned out to be false.. the question is what he was up to?.

Well cofty - nothing like upping the ante on the blasphemy - I thought I was pushing it knowing the sensitivities...hopefully we are obscure enough that it won't get picked up by a bunch of jih@dists

Can the same question be asked of Mohamed, Buddha and the other founders of religions? A lot of people set themselves up as prophets, it is credibility, organisational struture and historical accident (for example being used by an expanding Empire as a way to win hearts and minds) that makes one the founder of a global religion and another a nut case.

Why JWs don't celebrate Mother's day
by Laika inin the uk, this sunday is mother's day!
ask a jw why they don't celebrate holidays and they'll tell you it's because of some nefarious pagan connection.
but this is really just a cover.

I will get my son to buy a card and I suspect my wife will be happy to receive it. No advance panning, which will be resisted, just spring it on her on the day.

I NEVER Hear A JW Talk About Never Dying & Living Forever In Paradise Anymore!
by minimus ini was raised with this belief, that we would never die and actually make it into the "new system".
mu faithful jw aunt still talked about my mother (her sister) and her walking together into the great tribulation--- and never die at all!
she spoke of that 2 days before she passed away.. i believe most witnesses expect to die and then get resurrected.

I make a point of talking to my wife about what we will do in our old age as a way to get her to think about wheterh seh really believes the big A will happen soon. she has also told me about her wishes if she dies so she seems not to be deluding herself that she will live forever. I see all of this as quite positive.

FL_Panthers - I think some of your questions made people suspicious - if you are indeed here with an open mind and trying to decide what to believe then maybe share that with us and you will get a better response.
As to the situation with faders it seems the organisation is cracking down on 'shunning avoiders' - you are either with them or against them. But it seems the elders are over worked so it still may be possible to slip under the radar if you do it right. If you have a lot of families and friends who are Witnesses it will be much more difficult as once your non-attendeance becomes very apparent someone will call you on whether you are still loyal to Jehovah's spirit-directed organisation. Hello, I am new
by LillyC ini am not a jehovah's witness but i am very interested, i have many questions and hope they can be answered here.. i do believe in god, privately.
i do say my prayers daily and do believe god helps me in countless ways.
but i don't go to any church.. i have always been impressed at how smart, polite and nice jehovah's witnesses are and i always make time to speak to them when they call at my door.

Panther said: 'The best place to learn about JW is on JW.org
do not go to any other website. JW.org is the only official website for finding out the right information. Any other place will have false information and will not be true. It's like if I wanted to find out more about Mercedes Benz as a company, would I go to the BMW website? Volkswagen Website? Uhhh.........no.'
Nice analogy - let's take it a step further - if you were buying a car, would you only rely on what the salesmen told you or would you check out what they told you for yourself? Would you look at reviews for that car and for that dealership to see whether customers were generally satisfied and whether they thought the business acted honestly and with integrity or engaged in misleading and manipulative sales practices? And would you be concerned if the salesman told you not to do any independent research and that you should just believe what he said without question?

Newcomers to TTATT: Beware of "New Study Mode"!
by Londo111 inweve all heard it.
a person starts studying with jehovahs witnesses and love what they are learning so much that they cant stop talking about it.
bubbling with enthusiasm, they spill everything they are learning with their friends and family...or anybody who will listen.

The UBm can perhaps be generalised to any worldly people whose family members are recruited - like Faithful Witness
